Current treatment
Despite intense research, currently no effective and registered treatment for sepsis is available.
Most marketed drugs for sepsis are generics and include vasoconstrictors, antibiotics and intra-operative wound irrigation fluids to prevent wound infection following surgery. These drugs are not aimed at regulating the inflammatory response of the body but mainly at fighting the infection causing sepsis and maintaining a stable blood pressure. Thus, a new drug that is effective in the reduction of mortality of sepsis is urgently needed.
